Minor girl raped in central Kashmir, accused at large: Police

Srinagar, May 28: A young woman and her paramour were arrested for allegedly killing her husband two months ago in Nowgam area of the city, a police official said today.

Abroo Shafi, a property dealer, was believed to have died of natural causes on March 11 at his home in Nowgam but the unusual behaviour of his widow, Asifa, raised suspicion of the family, he said.

“During the course of investigation, it came to light that Asifa and her paramour Tanveer Molvi, a prayer leader at a local mosque, had killed Shafi after giving some tablets to him,” the official said.

He said it was the call detail records of the woman, who has a six-year-old daughter, which established the connection between Asifa and Tanveer, a resident of Lelhaar in Pulwama district.

The body of the victim has been exhumed for conducting a postmortem, he added.

Meanwhile, a minor girl was allegedly raped in Yarikhah village of Khansahib area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, police said today.

The father of the girl, in his complaint with Police Station Khansahib, alleged that his minor daughter was raped by a 22-year-old youth, said a police spokesman.

“Police has taken cognizance of the case and accordingly medical examination of the minor girl was conducted which confirmed rape of the victim,” he said.

The accused, according to the spokesman, has been identified and is still at large. A hunt has been launched to arrest the accused.

“In this regard, a case under relevant provisions of the law has been registered and investigation is going on,” he said.
