Srinagar, May 29: A special police officer (SPO) was injured critically after fired upon by militants at Puchal area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday evening.

Official sources told GNS that the gunmen fired upon the SPO, Aqib Wagay son of Abdul Ahad Wagay at Puchal village this evening.

In the incident, Wagay, a resident of Panzagam Awantipora, suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to the nearby district hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital,” they said.

SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary confirmed the incident to GNS.

“Wagay was shot at by the suspected militants. He was working as an SPO in Awantipora,” SSP said.

Meanwhile, Army, Special Operation Group of Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the suspected militants.
