Srinagar, May 18, 2018: Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani, who continues to be under house arrest, was again not allowed to offer Friday prayers.

“Even today in the month of Ramadan, Syed Ali Geelani was barred from offering Friday prayers.  Syed Ali Geelani continues to be virtually in jail. He was released for a brief period but rearrested without any justification,” a Hurriyat (G) spokesman said in a statement issued here.

“By placing curbs and detaining resistance leaders, the government is denying us the freedom to stage peaceful protests. It amounts to interference in religious affairs,” spokesman quoted Geelani as saying.

Meanwhile, a protest rally was taken out by Hurriyat conference against the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza.

The spokesman said that the rally was taken out from Jamia Masjid Hyderpora in Srinagar immediately after the Friday prayers. Shouting pro-Palestine and anti-Israel slogans, the people marched towards the main square.

The protesters condemned the Israeli action against Palestinians in Gaza and expressed their solidarity with Palestinians
