Sources told Kashmir Images that unknown gunmen who’s number was not confirmed, barged into the residence of Mohammad Ashraf Mir at Mir Mohallah Harwan Sopore at around 9.30PM. Mir’s wife Saima also received bullet injuries.

Both were rushed to Sub-Dist hospital Sopore where Ashraf succumbed to injuries.

“Yes we received both in injured condition but Ashraf succumbed to his injuries while his wife was shifted to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment as she had received bullets in both her legs,” Block Medical Officer Dr Sami told Kashmir Images.

“It is premature to say anything. We have registered a case  and investigations have been taken up,” Senior Superintendent of Police Javaid Iqbal told Kashmir Images.

He said initial investigations revealed that Ashraf was a driver by profession.

Meanwhile, DIG North Kashmir, Sunil Gupta confirmed that unidentified gunmen shot at the couple killing the husband and injuring the wife.

The incident comes days after three civilians were killed by suspected militants in Baramulla.

Though no group has owned the killing of these three youth, the female family members of the trio hit the streets today questioning both government and separatist leaders to spell out why the three were killed and who were behind the killings.
