Srinagar, May 02: Muslims across Kashmir Valley remained engaged in special nocturnal prayers on Shab-e-Barat, the night of forgiveness, in mosques, shrines and other religious places here during the preceding night.

On the occasion, religious places, especially mosques, were decorated while some people also lit their homes with candles.

People offered night-long special prayers in Masjids and shrines where religious scholars delivered sermons highlighting the teachings of Islam and various aspects of the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

In Kashmir, major congregations were offered at Hazratbal shrine, Chrar-e-Sharif, Khankahi Maula, Dastgir Saheb’s shrines at  Khanyar and Sarai Payeen and other major shrines and mosques.

A large number of people also visited Jamia Masjid where Mirwaiz Umar Farooq delivered sermon on the importance of Shab-e-Barat.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid have also greeted people on the occasion and expressed hope that the auspicious occasion will be harbinger of peace and prosperity for the state.
