SRINAGAR, MAY 01: Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production Department M D Khan today said that interventions made by the Department should be translated into results and impact should be visible on the ground.

The secretary expressed these views while chairing his maiden review meeting here at Lal Mandi.

Director Agriculture Kashmir, Joint Director Agriculture Extension, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs, Joint Director Agriculture Engineering, Subject Matter Specialist (RL), Chief Agriculture Officers of concerned districts and other key functionaries of the department, attended the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Commissioner Secretary said that 75% to 80% population of the State is directly or indirectly related to the agriculture sector, therefore, it is the prime responsibility of the department that all the public resources are utilized in most judicious manner.

He said the greatest concern of the department is wellbeing of farmers and strengthening of the rural economy, adding the only solution to the problems of the farming community is providing them effective handholding to boost their socio-economic status.

During the meeting, he asked the concerned to devise a compact, inclusive; technology-based, multi-dimensional and vibrant agriculture policy, taking all the stakeholders on board, so that the entire potential in this sector can be explored. He stressed for the department to work in close coordination to overcome the challenges of the farm sector, particularly focusing the small and marginal farmers.
