Agriculture backbone of state economy: Beigh
Inaugurates Seed Processing Centre
Baramulla, Apr 29: Member Parliament Muzaffar Hussain Beigh today visited SKIMS’ Faculty of Agriculture at Wadura Sopore and inaugurated a Seed Processing Centre which has come up with the financial assistance of Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
He also laid foundation stone of three-storied Girls Hostel having capacity for 80 girls.
Speaking on the occasion, Beigh described agriculture and its importance and said that agriculture is the backbone of State’s economy and pivotal to food security which should be given priority by the government and the university.
He advised student community to pursue their degrees with zeal and dedication and come to the expectations of the society, state and the country at large.
Beigh also announced grant of Rs 1 crore out of Constituency Development Fund for improving existing infrastructure, medical facilities, laboratories and road connectivity within the campus.
For efficient utilization of the grant, he asked the Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir to frame comprehensive plans. He also pledged that he will take up with State and Central governments the need of funding for strengthening the university.
