Srinagar, Apr 26: The government on Thursday halted the transfer of Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Shahnawaz Bukhari, who is conducting magisterial enquiry into the shooting of a youth in Kangan.

The family of the slain youth Gowhar Ahmad Rather had demanded that Bukhari shouldn’t be transferred until the probe is completed.

“After yesterday’s transfer order of ADC Ganderbal, matter was taken up with higher authorities to retain ADC Shahnawaz Bukhari who is entrusted with magisterial probe in recent death of Kangan youth. Accordingly, directions have been received in the morning from GAD to retain him,” said the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Dr Piyush Singla.

He said that it was part of routine transfers and it had nothing to do with the enquiry and the probe.

“We have already assured that there will be complete transparency in the probe and urged people to cooperate and maintain peace,” he said.

Official sources said that the matter was also brought into the notice of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who directed retaining ADC Ganderbal till enquiry is completed.
