Road Safety Week: DC Shopian flags off rally

SHOPIAN, APRIL 24:  Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Gazanfar Ali today flagged off a rally to mark the second day 29th Road Safety Week, organized by the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) in association with district administration.

The rally started from Mini Secretariat Shopian passing through the main bazaar with culmination at ARTO office.

ACR Shopian Majid Jahangir, ARTO Shopian Er Abdul Majid, Inspector Irfan Hussain, besides volunteers, and official motor vehicles department Shopian participated in the car rally.

DC said that the “Road Safety Week” is organized every year to educate people about the road safety measures besides providing an opportunity to take part in concerted efforts for the cause.

DC further stressed upon MVD to deal strictly with the violators.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Shopian Er Ab Majid who was present on the occasion urged the cooperation from transporters and civil society members to ensure better transport facilities in the district.

He stressed upon the drivers not to use cell phones while driving to avoid accidents.

“Motorists must avoid over speeding, rash and negligent driving so that precious lives can be saved,” he said.

He said these events are organized every year to aware people about the safe driving.
