Srinagar, April 22: Police on Sunday said it has arrested four gamblers in Magam area of Budgam district.
Acting on a specific information, police raided a gambling site at Buddibagh, Magam and apprehended four gamblers identified as Abdul Majeed, Ishaq Rather, Ishfaq Rasool and Vilayet Wani, all residents of Buddibagh, Magam.
Stake money of Rs 2050 and playing cards were also recovered from the gambling site.
A case (FIR 51/2018) under section 13 Gambling Act was registered in Police Station Magam.
The accused were challaned in Magam court, convicted and sentenced for 14 days imprisonment by Judicial Magistrate Magam, police spokesman said, adding that the residents of the area have hailed the crime control efforts of police.
