Dy CM distributes free LPG connections among BPL women

KATHUA, APRIL 20 – With an aim of providing clean cooking fuel to BPL women and reducing the hazards of biomass cooking, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today distributed 150 free LPG connections among the beneficiaries at Phinter in Billawar to mark the celebrations of Ujjwala Divas under Government of India’s massive outreach campaign ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister said that respect for women is the core foundation of Ujjwala Yojana and informed that 4000 LPG connections were distributed in Billawar among the beneficiaries and the left-out beneficiaries would soon get new connections after proper verification.

He also sensitized the Ujjwala beneficiaries about safety, utility and health benefits of using clean fuels.

Highlighting the importance of such campaigns, Dr Singh said that these campaigns provide an appropriate platform to highlight the work done by the government for the welfare the poor and weaker sections of the society.

He further said that holistic development of Billawar is top priority of the government and all out efforts are being made to provide better educational, sports infra in the area along with superior medical facilities and state of the art tourist infra. He further stated that Degree College at Ramkote and indoor sports stadium at Billawar are two major achievements towards realizing this goal.

Earlier in the day, the Deputy CM also inaugurated a Community Hall at Phinter, the work of which has been executed by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj at the cost of Rs. 9.90 lakh.

ADC Billawar, Joginder Singh Rai, SDPO, Tehsildars, BDOs, Engineers, TSO and other Sub Division level officers along with villagers in large numbers were present on the occasion.
