Army organizes  plantation drive

Srinagar: Towards the conservation of ecology and preservation of flora, the Army today carried out afforestation drive in Pattan and AGS Ziran to meaningfully contribute and spread the message of Green India.

In a statement issued here, the army spokesman said that a master plan for the tree plantation drive was prepared in conjunction with the Forest Department and preparations were carried out for the event.

Army personnel from Ziran Army Garrison, prominent civil dignitaries of Tangmarg and students and teachers of the school attended the event and planted more than 400 saplings. The motive of the event was to inculcate a habit among children to be more sensitive towards environment and inspire them to be the ambassadors of environmental protection.

The plantation drive will not only benefit the environment but will also influence the socio-economic development of the nation, prevention of global warming, reduction of pollution, soil conservation and will certainly add onto the natural aesthetic beauty of the Valley, the statement said.
