Div Com reviews basic facilities at railway stations

SRINAGAR, APRIL 16: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan today reviewed the status of various facilities being provided to passengers at railways stations in Kashmir and directed that necessary steps be taken to augment facilities wherever necessary.

The Div Com was speaking at a meeting attended by Chief Engineer PHE, IRCON representative, officials of PDD, revenue and tourism. District Development Commissioner Budgam participated in the meeting via video conferencing.

The meeting was informed that there are some issues pertaining to the supply of potable water at railways stations in Budgam, Baramulla and Qazigund. The Div Com directed the IRCON officials to approach the PHE officials with a proposal so that the department can help them in the supply of quality water.

With regards to defunct street lights and intermittent power supply to many stations, the Div Com directed PDD officials to ensure that all street lights installed on approach roads should be repaired by the end of May. He also directed that 24-hour power supply is provided to the stations wherever dedicated feeders are installed.

He also asked the IRCON to sign an MOU with Municipal Committee Budgam so that the later will provide a dedicated staff to the Ompora railway station for maintaining sanitation and cleanliness at the station. He said that all the departments and railway authorities should work in tandem so that best of facilities are provided to people using the railway services in Kashmir valley.
