Rural pockets of Leh being developed at par with urban areas: CEC Leh

LEH, APRIL 13: – Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, Dorjey Motup, said that LAHDC is making concerted efforts to develop all the rural pockets at par with urban areas.

The CEC, who is also the chairman of General Council meeting expressed these views on the second day of the General Council meeting, held here at Council Secretariat Conference Hall.

Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjay, Executive Councilor for Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, Executive Councilor for Health Gyal P Wangyal, Executive Councilor for Tourism Tsering Sandup, Executive Councilor for Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Cooperatives Mumtaz Hussain, besides Councilors of Hill Council, Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Leh Avny Lavasa and Head of departments of various departments were present on the occasion.

Dorje Motup informed that LAHDC is making all-out efforts to upgrade the Nyoma Hospital with the central heating system.

The CEC informed that LAHDC has provided an outlay Rs.151.50 crore for the year 2018-19 under agriculture sector for boosting the agriculture production in the district. He informed that the LAHDC has provided Rs.88 lakh with an outlay amount under Animal Husbandry Department.

Giving the breakup about the funds provided to various departments to carry out the developmental works, the CEC said that Rs.83.98 lakh has been provided to Horticulture Department, Rs.19.15 lakh to Wild Life, Rs.19.16 lakh to Handloom Department, Rs.24.01 crore to Rural Development (NREGA), Rs.5.26 crore to Irrigation Department, Rs. 6.91 crore under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Rs. 17.83 crRashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, Rs. 0.86 lakh under mid-day meal and Rs. 81.02 crore under other sectors of Leh district.

The CEC directed the concerned to gear up their man and machinery in providing modern and basic amenities across the district.

Dorjey Motup directed the ECs to come up with the new projects under PHE, R&B, PDD, Education, Health, Cooperative, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, besides other sectors for the convenience of the general masses.

CEC asked the concerned department to train the farmers for preparing compost in their respective villages for less utilization of chemical fertilizers.

He said that LAHDC is keen to promote handicraft and handloom products across the district by establishing new centres there so that unemployed youth could start their own ventures after getting training in both the sectors.

He asked to prepare self-help groups at village levels for increasing the production of handicraft and handloom products.

Under education sector, CEC asked the EC Education to start IT and smart classes in all the schools so that quality education to be provided to the students across the district.

CEC asked the EC Forest Gyal P Wangyal to develop all the degraded areas of the forest with a green cover by planting ornamental and fruit plants. He said that trees provide a healthy environment to the people. He said being a high-altitude place ‘it is the duty of the forest department to develop every open space of the district with green gold’. He directed to fence all the open spaces of the forest closures with chain link fences for avoiding encroachment of the forest land.
