SRINAGAR, APRIL 12:  A team of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today penalized a non-local confectionary manufacturing unit for unfair trade practices.

“Prompted by public complaints that a non-local confectionary manufacturing unit is indulging in selling underweight items, a team of LMD under the supervision on Deputy Controller (Enforcement) Kashmir visits various Srinagar markets to ascertain the genuineness of the complaints,” a statement of the Department said.

It was observed that the declared net weight on the label of milk candy packs was lesser in weight by about 20g in each pack which is beyond the permissible error in net contents, the statement added.

Accordingly, a challan was compounded and a fine of Rs 15000 was imposed on the erring confectionary unit.
