Baramulla: At least three residential houses and a government school building were damaged after lightning struck in Kalsa Ghati area of Uri town on Monday night.

Locals said that three residential houses belonging to Moze Ali Shah, son of Mir Ali Shah, Sakhawat Hussain and Manzoor Hussain, sons of Syed Hussain, residents of Kalsa Ghati Uri were damaged on Monday night. A government primary school building PS Kalsa Ghati was also damaged in a lightning incident.

“We never heard such an explosion even though we live near line of control (LoC). A fire ball came and exploded with huge bang and shattered all residential houses and a school building here,” said Asif Ahmed, a local resident.

A team of officials from department of revenue led by Tehsildar Uri Mohammad Aslam visited Ghati Uri to assess the damage while as Zonal Educational Officer Chandanwari Ghulam Jeelani Khawaja  also visited the school to take stock of the situation and alternative arrangements for students.

The officials said that a residential house has suffered major damage while as two others and a school building suffered minor damage. However, there was no report of any injuries.
