Kulgam gunfight: One more teenage boy killed; civilian death toll 3

Srinagar, April 11: One more teenager boy was killed in clashes with the government forces, taking the death toll of civilians to three near the encounter site at Khudwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Official sources told news agency GNS that one more youth Faisal Ahmad Illahi (15) sustained serious injuries after the joint team of forces used pellet guns, tear gas shells and opened some rounds to disperse the protesting youth near Wani Mohalla at Khudwani.

Illahi a resident of Melhoora, Shopian succumbed to injuries in the nearby hospital, they said.

The intense clashes between the government force and the youth erupted since today morning soon after the news about the encounter at Wani Mohalla, Khudwani spread.

Earlier, two youths Sharjeel and Bilal Ahmad died in the forces action and more than 40 others sustained injuries.

A doctor at PHC Qaimoh told GNS that they have received so far 35 injured persons and are being treated upon.

An army soldier was killed and two others injured during the encounter at Wani Mohall area of Khudwani. The encounter started between militants and government forces started late last night in Khudwani.

Official sources told news agency GNS that a joint team of army’s 1 R, SOG and CRPF laid a siege at Wani Mohalla area of Khudwani at around 11:30 pm.

A police official told GNS that the joint team of forces launched a cordon in the area following inputs about the presence of some militants.

As the joint party approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off a gunfight.

Three army personnel suffered injuries and were removed to army hospital at Badamibagh wehere one of the succumbed to injuries.  Schools and colleges were closed and internet suspended
