Srinagar: Rich tributes were paid to Shaire-Kashmir Mehjoor on his 66th Death Anniversary. In this connection a mega literary and Cultural event was organized by J&K Cultural Academy, Directorate of School Education, Kashmir and J&K Mehjoor Foundation at the auditorium of Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Kothi Bagh Srinagar.

The function was presided over by writer and Poet Gh Nabi Khayal while Prof Mohammad Aslam, Mohammad Shafi Pandith, G.R.Sofi, Prof. Mohammad Zaman Azurda and Rafiq Raz were also in the presidium.

Poetic compositions of Mehjoor were presented by student artists of Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Kothi Bagh.

In his presidential address Khayal described Mehjoor as one of the great poet of his time who introduced new sensibilities in Kashmiri poetry, hither to unknown in Kashmiri literature. Khayal congratulated the organizers for organizing this purposeful function to pay tributes to Mehjoor.

Prof Bashar Basheer presented a paper on the occasion in which he highlighted the cultural sensibilities of Mehjoor. Director School Education Kashmir Dr. G.N.Itoo said that the younger generation needs to be apprised about the message of Mehjoor.

Earlier in his welcome address Chief Editor JKAACL, Mohammad Ashraf Tak said that JKAACL has organized various functions across the state to pay tributes to Shaer-i-Kashmir Mehjoor and this is one of among them and main purpose of the function is to highlight life and contribution of Shaer-i-Kashmir Mehjoor.
