Srinagar, Apr 08: Normalcy returned to Kangan area of Ganderbal district today after six days of continuous shutdown against the killing of a local youth by government forces.

Contingents of forces were also withdrawn from the area that were deployed to thwart protests by people after the killing.

Shops and other commercial establishments opened today while transport also plied in the area.

The situation in Kangan and adjacent areas had turned tense after the killing of 23-year-old Gowhar Ahmad — who was wounded in government forces’ action past Monday and succumbed to injuries a day later at SKIMS.

While the government has ordered magisterial probe into the incident and police has also initiated a departmental inquiry, the government also ordered suspension of a cop involved in the killing of Gowhar.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also visited the bereaved family and assured them of justice.

Meanwhile, another 22-year-old Mohammad Amir Lone of adjacent Chattergul village is battling for his life in SKIMS Soura. He too was injured in forces’ action.
