Srinagar: JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik along with the other members of separatist groups held absentia funeral prayers for the militants and civilians killed in Anantnag and Shopian districts of South Kashmir on Sunday.

Earlier, the separatist leaders, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik Sunday called for complete shutdown in Kashmir Valley for today and tomorrow to mourn the killings in south Kashmir.

Separatists asked people to suspend business and other activities and offer funeral prayers in absentia at 4 pm today, across Kashmir valley.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted between the government forces and youth at various places in Srinagar’s old city on Sunday soon after the news about the killings of militants in south Kashmir gunfights reached here.

Reports said that the youth came out on roads as soon as the word about the killings of militants in separate gunfights in south Kashmir reached Srinagar areas, triggering clashes in many areas.

The shops and business establishments were closed and transport also vanished from the roads in these areas within no time, reports said.

The clashes were reported from Soura, Nawab Bazar, Rajouri Kadal, Nawa Kadal, Habba Kadal and Maisuma areas of the city.

In Sopore also, people came out on streets and started a protest march through the main town. However, as police and paramilitary forces tried to thwart the march, intense stone-pelting clashes ensued near the Main Chowk and General Bus Stand areas of the town.
