VOK registers corruption case against PHE officials
Srinagar, Mar 31: Vigilance Organization has registered a corruption case against Executive Engineer and Assistant Executive Engineer, PHE Division Qazigund.
The case under Prevention of Corruption Act was registered following a verification conducted into the allegations that the Executive Engineer and Assistant Executive Engineer have misappropriated huge amounts of public money during execution of the Water Supply Scheme Nowgamnard Saskhundan, VOK spokesperson said.
He said during the course of verification, it has been revealed that a sum of Rs 185 lakhs has been spent on the water supply scheme Nowgamnard Saskhundan, but this scheme could not take off due to its faulty design.
The verification also revealed that the work on the said water supply scheme was executed in gross violation of initial DPR as the then Executive Engineer Sham Lal Kapoor and Assistant Executive Engineer Mukhtar Ahmad Dar did not adhere to requisite specifications and dimensions of the pipes during the execution of scheme.
“The officers in this way have deliberately and with dishonest intention ignored alignment fixed as per DPR and dimensions of pipes during execution of work and consequently amount of Rs 185 lakhs is a wasteful expenditure and resultant loss to state exchequer,” the spokesperson said.
Another corruption case was registered against the officers of PHE Division Bandipora.
Spokesperson said during enquiry, it has also been found that the store-keeper Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, who was also the Custodian of records under a well-knit criminal conspiracy hatched with other officers/officials of PHE Division Bandipora, have dishonestly and fraudulently and by abuse of their official position misappropriated the government property and thus caused huge loss to the state exchequer.
