Srinagar | Saturday, 31 March 2018: National Conference General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar on Saturday asked both India and Pakistan to shun their differences and initiate result oriented talks on Kashmir.

Addressing a one day convention of Block Habba Kadal, Sagar rued the non seriousness exhibited by BJP led government at the centre.

“In spite of having a clear majority in the parliament, PM Narendra Modi and his party BJP have failed to deliver on ground when it comes to changing the current narrative on Kashmir. He has the power to bring all the stakeholders on board and effectively deal with the situation but alas nothing much is coming out of his kitty. We expected a statesmanship approach from him,” he said.

Sagar expressed dismay at the recurrent border shelling. He said, “The frequent LoC, IB skirmishes between the two neighbours have never yielded anything other than killing innocents on both sides. It is therefore time for an end to hostility between India and Pakistan. Both countries should sit across the table and resolve their differences peacefully.”

“Both the countries need to understand that we are the basic sufferers of the conflict and any attempt made by the two countries to end hostility will be warmly welcomed by National Conference which has always been an advocate of dialogue,” Sagar said.

Party Vice President Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan while speaking at the convention made an impassioned plea to both Indian and Pakistani PMs. He said, “Ever since the partition of Indian sub-continent, people of Jammu and Kashmir have been the worst victims of the hostility between India and Pakistan. It is time that the leadership of both the countries realize this and show empathy towards people of the state.”

Shamima Firdous who was moderating the convention attacked the PDP BJP government for its abject failure on political as well as governance front.

“The people of the state are fed up with this set up where the real power doesn’t flow from the chair of the CM but comes from those who are sitting hundreds of miles away from Srinagar. Mehbooba Mufti has been relegated to just a rubber stamp CM,” she said.

“The situation in Kashmir is akin to 90’s now. Everyday there is news of killings but the government seems hardly moved by such incidents. In fact BJP has taken a dangerous recourse wherein they are plotting to attack the state’s special status through different means. And PDP happens to be a mute spectator in all this,” Shamima said while asking people to remain steadfast and defeat the evil designs of the right wing party.
