Director Industries & Commerce felicitates cyclists

Srinagar Mar 31: Director Industries and Commerce, Kashmir Bilal Ahmad Bhat on Saturday felicitated renowned cyclists Akber Khan and Praviaz Ahmad for their performances in Mumbai-Pune and Satara cycling events.

International cyclist of Kashmir, Akber Khan recently bagged couple of positions in the professional cycling events held in Maharashtra. Another young budding cyclist Parvaiz Ahmad also bagged position in the event.

Director Industries felicitated both cyclists with a trophy and cash prize of Rupees 5000 and hailed their achievement in national circuit. The cyclists were felicitated in presence of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Secretary Arif Laigroo.

On the occasion Bilal also announced that his department will provide Akber registration for starting specific cycling unit.

“It is great to see our boys doing well in cycling arena which is considered one of the toughest sport in world. We hope they keep doing well and bring more laurels for the State,” Bilal said.

Director Industries said that there is lot of scope and avenues in Industries sector for the promotion of adventure and leisure sports activities.

“These are educated talented youth and I want to invite them to get benefits of schemes that exist in our department. As part of that part Akber would be given first registration to set up Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises in cycling. Our Government is keen to promote cycling as an everyday activity and in it there is lot of scope for improvement. There is already plan in motion to set up dedicated cycling zones,” he said.
