Sopore: At least four youth were injured in the clashes that erupted in Bratkalan village of North Kashmir’s Sopore town on early Tuesday morning after security forces laid siege in the area.

Reports said that 22 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF launched a joint operation in Brath village following inputs about the presence of militants.

They said that the searches were on for several hours, however nothing was found. Few gunshots were also heard during the search operation but it was not immediately known who fired the shots. However, a police official later said that the search parties could have fired some speculative shots.

Following the arrest of two locals – Khurshid Ahmed Mir, son of Abdul Rashid Mir and Mehraj Ahmed, both residents of Brath Kalan – during the search operation, the situation turned ugly.

Youth hit the streets and pelted stones to protest against the detention of the duo. Forces, according to an eye witness, responded with tear gas shelling and pellets, leaving four youth injured who were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment
