DDC Anantnag reviews progress under SBM

ANANTNAG, MARCH 26: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik today chaired a meeting to review the progress achieved under Swachch Bharat Mission (SBM) here.

The purpose of the meeting was to sensitize concerned for accelerating the efforts of making the district Open Defecation Free (ODF).

“Poor sanitation is a primary cause of many deadly diseases, deaths among children under 5 years of age, contamination of groundwater sources, loss of family income on account of increased health costs, and compromised human dignity,” said the DDC.

DDC said under SBM, the Rural Development Department is providing a financial assistance of Rs.12000 for construction of Individual Household Latrines (IHHL).

The DDC stressed upon the BDOs for 100% coverage till 7th April 2018. He also directed them for gearing up the field functionaries at the grass root level and focus on Baseline Survey to achieve the targets.

The meeting was informed that in Rural Development Block, Qazigund, against a construction target of 2836 IHHL, 2210 units have been completed and online payment has been made in favour of 1322 beneficiaries.

The meeting was also attended by Chief Planning Officer, Anantnag, ACD, Anantnag, DPO and concerned BDOs.
