Army provides assistance to kin of civil employee

Srinagar: Continuing with its endeavour to provide all necessary aid and assistance to the populace of the Valley, the Army rewarded Late Gulam Ahmad Mir by providing financial assistance to the next of kin of the deceased.

A defense spokesman said in a statement issued here that Late Gulam Ahmad Mir was employed as a cook in the Chowkibal Garrison and was immensely loyal and dedicated.

On 03 Mar 1986, the individual died due to drowning while he was crossing a nullah near Chowkibal Garrison. The death of Late Gulam Ahmad Mir left his family in a financially unstable condition since Mir was the only bread earner.

The Army relentlessly pursued a case for compensation to the next of kin of Late Gulam Ahmad Mir and as a result, finally a decision was given in favour of awarding a compensation of Rs 2,72,798/- to Shareefa Begam, the daughter-in-law of Late Gulam Ahmad Mir.
