Strict action to be taken against illegal sand extractors: DC Pulwama

PULWAMA, MARCH 15:  District Development Commissioner Pulwama Ghulam Mohammad Dar today convened a meeting of officers to curb the trend of “uncontrolled and unscientific extraction” of sand, gravel and soil in the District.

The meeting was attended by SE Hydraulic, Executive Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control, Tehsildar Pulwama, Kakapora and Pampore, Civil Officers and concerned SHO’s.

Speaking on the occasion DDC Pulwama said that despite ban on the “Illegal, uncontrolled and unscientific extraction,” extraction of sand from river Jhelum and other nallah, a lot of complaints have surfaced wherein people are seen extracting the sand alongside the river Jhelum which include areas like Pampore, Kakapora, Punjnad, Galandar, Chechikoot, Pujtang and Dogripora and Nallah Rambiara and other nallahs.

DDC exhorted upon the officers that these miscreants should be dealt stringently as per law.  “FIR should be lodged against illegal sand extractors and to seize their mechanical boats, Tippers and tractors so that such illegal activities are prevented to safeguard the embankments of Jhelum and other nallahs,” he said.
