“Besides latest High Definition cameras, the Department has also installed latest digital workstations for the in-house production of audio-visual developmental programmes including Aks-e-Parwaaz,” said Director Information and Public Relations, Muneer-ul-Islam.

He said a modern studio is coming up at the Media Complex, Srinagar for the purpose, which would be also used for training the budding media professionalsin audio-visual and digital production.

Muneer-ul-Islam said the infrastructure upgradation at DIPR was started in 2015 on the initiative of then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and within 3 years the Department, which was till then deficient in even basic minimum substructure including office accommodation, has made significant progress on various fronts.

He said with the continued support of the present Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, the DIPR has over the past three years embarked, in a big way, on upgrading existing infrastructure and creating new infrastructure. “While state-of-the-art auditoriums have already been made functional at the Media Complexes in Jammu and Srinagar, the Department is now in the process of setting up Library-cum-Reading Rooms at Jammu an Srinagar,” he said and added that the Department, which was chronically deficient in manpower at the cutting-edge level, has also been strengthened by way of human resource with the induction of around 50 professionally qualified personnel including Reporters, Translators, Video Editors and Cameramen.

The Director Information said the Department is in the process of engaging around 35 more professionally qualified persons including 25 Reporters and 10 Cameramen to fully arm the Department with professional human resource.

He said the Department is also in the process creating new facilities for the journalists and media students in the State besides arranging regular internship and trainings for them.

Muneer-ul-Islam said the Department has already tied up through Press Council of India (PCI) with various prestigious Media Organizations outside the State to arrange Internship for media students from J&K in these organizations. “DIPR have also tied up with reputed Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune to organize for the local youth short-term courses in Digital Filmmaking at Srinagar and Jammu,” he said and added that the first such course will start in Srinagar on 27th of this month.
