SKIMS observes ‘No Smoking Awareness Day’

SRINAGAR, MARCH 14: The SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina on Wednesday observed “No Smoking Awareness Day 2018” to decimate message among general masses to refrain from smoking.

The event organized by the Social Committee of the CASS Union in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine was convened over by Director SKIMS & EOSG, Professor Omar Javed Shah and Principal SKIMS Medical College Professor ReyazAUntoo.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director SKIMS stressed on refraining from smoking as it is extremely harmful to the body, making individual critically ill in later stages of life.

In his message, Principal Medical College emphasized the importance of taken preventive measures. He reiterated that prevention is better than Cure and said it is better to quit now rather than later on repenting over it.

A rally was also taken off in this regard by 1st Year M.B.B.S students, which was flagged off by the Director SKIMS & EOSG and Principal SKIMS Medical College.

Flyers and pamphlets illustrating the deleterious effects of smoking were distributed by the participants amongst the general public on the national highway.

Students delivered short thematic speeches on the occasion. A skit on ‘No Smoking’ depicting the hazards of cigarette consumption was performed by the students of the college in the auditorium.

Besides all the HODs, Medical Superintendent, Faculty members, the leading

Chest Physician & HOD Chest Medicine Dr Javed Malik was present on the occasion. Later on, the Fresher’s day celebrations were held in the Auditorium.
