Geelani hails statement of UN HC for human rights

Srinagar, March 09: While hailing the statement of UN High Commissioner for human rights, Zeid Ra’ad in which he has voiced his concern over series of human rights violation in Jammu and Kashmir, Syed Ali Geelani on Friday expressed hope that UNO will take necessary steps in this regard and take measures to halt bloodshed and check growing excesses against unarmed and peaceful civilians.

While violating the norms laid in human rights charter, Indian authorities are trampling and violating human values, said Geelani in a statement issued here today.

“We appeal international community and UNO to take impressive measures for the resolution of this long pending dispute,” said Geelani.

Hailing UN High commissioner for his keen interest towards the issue, Geelani said that it is encouraging and expressed hope that he will play a positive and effective role for its peaceful settlement and in halting human rights abuses here.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference leaders and activists staged a protest demonstration at Hyderpora against, shifting of prisoners, plight of detainees in Tihar, civilian killings and rape and murder of minor Asifa.
