Army celebrates International Women’s Day

Srinagar: International Women’s Day was celebrated by Naidkhai Army Camp on March 08, where more than 300 girls from various orphanages of district Bandipora, Srinagar, Kupwara and Baramulla graced the occasion. The aim of the event was to spread the message of “Pledge for Parity, Promise for Equality”.

A defense spokesman in a statement issued today said that the day started with a symposium on the theme “Empowerment of Women” followed by a counselling session for girl students  on various academic and career avenues by prominent women personalities including  doctors, teachers, lady Army Aviators and ladies heading the NGOs.

Thereafter, a cultural  programme including scintillating song performance on “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” theme and a Qawali were performed by the Pune based NGO Borderless World Foundation.

The spokesman said that the venue turned out to be the hub of fun and frolic in the second half of the event. The women folk enthusiastically participated in various games organised in the festival like Balloon Shooting, Carrom and Chess, Volleyball, Badminton, etc. A small documentary on Malala Yousafzai was also screened for the school going girls.

Outstanding women who have achieved distinctions in various fields were felicitated and the orphanages participated in the event were gifted with items like  Auto Sweater Sewing Machine, Blankets, Solar Powered LED Lights, Sports Equipment and Stationary items. The event culminated with a motivational talk by renowned Bollywood star, Haider and Bajrangi Bhaijaan famed veteran theatre artist Bhavani Bashir Yasir.
