Thousands participate in funeral prayers of slain Shopian youth
Anantnag, Mar 05: Thousands of people on Monday participated in funerals of four youth and a militant, who were killed yesterday in army firing at Pahnoo village in Shopian district.
At Malikgund Shopian, six rounds of funerals were held for slain youth Muhammad Shahid Khan.
Pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans were raised as thousands of people including women and children accompanied funeral processions.
Women were seen beating their chests and showering flower petals and sweets on the bodies of slain youth.
Meanwhile, police on Monday detained dozens of students, who were protesting against the Shopian killings, during clashes in Anantnag district.
The youth were protesting against the yesterday’s Shopian killings.
Reports said several students from different coaching centers assembled at KP Road in Anantnag town to protest against the killings.
However, government forces appeared at the spot and used force to disperse the protesting youth. The protesting students pelted forces with stones, resulting in clashes in the area. Dozens of protesting students were also detained during the clashes.
