Jammu, Mar 5:  An elderly person was killed while five of his family members were injured when the car they were travelling in veered off a road and plunged into deep gorge in Doda district today, police said.

The family, which was on its way to Bhadarwah, reportedly met with an accident near Seri village on Doda-Bhadarwah National Highway at 11 am, they said.

“A Hyundai i10 Car skidded off the road after colliding with another vehicle coming from opposite direction and fell into a 300-feet deep gorge into Neru river,” Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Bhadarwah) Brijesh Sharma said.

According the officer, the locals immediately reached the spot and retrieved all the six persons, including a toddler, from the damaged vehicle.

The victims were rushed to a district hospital, where do the elderly man was declared brought dead, the officer added.

The deceased, identified as Swami Raj, was a resident of Lamot-Dranga of Bhadarwah.

Police said a case has been filed, and that they are investigating the matter to establish the cause of the accident.
