Tral, Feb 27: Thousands of people on Tuesday morning participated in the funeral prayers of slain Hizb militant, Mushtaq Ahma Chopan in Tral village.

At least four back-to-back funerals were held to accommodate the huge rush of mourners who had turned up at Chopan’s native Wangad village. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard near Baba Dawood  Khaki’s shrine amid cries and sobs.

Mushtaq died in a grenade attack near police station Tral on Monday afternoon. Police has ordered a magisterial inquiry and internal investigation into the incident.

Witnesses said thousands of people from Aripal, Tral and adjoining villages participated in the funeral of Chopan amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. They said ‘taranas’ were broadcast over the public address systems during the funeral.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Tral and Aripal townships against his killing, with all shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the roads.
