Rain, snowfall predicted from today
Srinagar, Feb 22: Local Meteorological department has predicted rainfall in plains and heavy rainfall or snow in upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir from February 23.
According to the weather advisory issued by the MeT department, a fresh western disturbance is likely affect the region from February 23 and is likely going to persist till afternoon of February 24.
“A fresh Western Disturbance will affect J&K from 23 Feb (night) to 25 Feb (forenoon) resulting in moderate to heavy rainfall in plains and heavy rainfall/snowfall in upper reaches around 24 Feb,” read the weather advisory issued by MeT Department.
“There is forecast of heavy rain and snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir and moderate precipitation is expected at widespread places in the division which may have effect on transportation mainly through national highway during this period,” a statement of the Divisional administration said.
The statement said that all the Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir division have been asked to take necessary precautionary measures in their respective districts. People living in the avalanche-prone areas have been advised to take precautionary measures.
