Sources said that the cop is presently posted with IG Traffic Jammu, Basant Rath.

He said the arrested policeman used to peddle drugs from Kashmir to Jammu.  The vehicle he was travelling in was also seized.

In a separate operation, Narender Kumar alias Tanchi, a resident of R S Pura, was also arrested from Gandhi Nagar area and 60 grams of heroin was recovered from him, the officer said.

He said Kumar, who allegedly used to procure drugs from Punjab, was travelling in a car when he was intercepted by police. The vehicle was also seized.

“Kumar is a notorious criminal wanted in various heinous crimes in Jammu district. He peddled drugs to meet his needs. He had been involved in drug dealing for quite some time,” the officer said.

In another operation, two residents of Uttar Pradesh – Dinesh Kumar and Sham Ji Mali – were arrested after 3.5 kg of cannabis was recovered from their possession here, Chaudhary said.

The SP said the arrested persons were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
