Awareness camp for Sheep breeders held at Kulgam

KULGAM, FEBRUARY 10: District Development Commissioner, Kulgam today inaugurated livestock show cum sheep awareness camp organised by Sheep Husbandry Department here in the town hall Kulgam.

The livestock show cum awareness camp was organised to attract more and more breeders across the district for encouraging them besides making them aware about the different central and state-sponsored schemes launched for the welfare of the people associated with the sheep farming.

Speaking on the occasion, the DSHO requested the sheep farmers to carry forward the message of integrated farming on a large scale so as to increase the socio-economic growth of this sector. Department is committed to provide all the technical and financial help to Sheep community in achieving this endeavour, he added.

Revealing details of the schemes and the overall status of the sheep farming in district Kulgam District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr Mohammed Amin Dar said that the district is having a total sheep population of 1.77 lakhs of Sheep and goat beside the mutton production has reached up to 9 lakh Kgs.

The department is having 45 Sheep Extension Centres besides 05 first aid centre in the district which is divided into 05 intensive sheep blocks.

Giving details of the programmes run during the current year, it was informed that four units under RKVY mini sheep farms consisting of 25 eves have been established beside two more units of Mini Sheep farms have been established. Under direct lending scheme of establishing a unit of 10 eves, 25 cases have been approved where 75 cases are at final stage of approval.

District Development Commissioner while speaking on the occasion urged the people and unemployed youth, in particular, to opt for sheep rearing and associating themselves with the establishment of sheep units for social and economic development and prosperity besides earning their livelihood.

He appreciated the concerned for conducting the awareness camp and directed for holding of such camps frequently with broader perspective.
