Srinagar, Feb 12: Three young men were detained here on Wednesday after they staged a protest against the visit of foreign envoys to Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

They protested against the visit and called it a waste of money while the envoys were enjoying a Shikara ride in the Dal Lake.

“The government should stop wasting money on these events. The money saved should be spent on the development of Kashmir as youth here are craving for better employment avenues,” one of the youths said while being whisked away by the police.

“They (envoys) do nothing other than enjoying Shikara rides at Dal Lake? We don’t oppose any effort aimed at restoring peace in the Valley but government should focus on development of Jammu and Kashmir rather than wasting money on such useless visits,” they said.

They also said the aim of holding symbolic protest on arrival of foreign delegation was meant to catch attention of the government towards the problems faced by the people of Kashmir.

“Kindly take note of the problems Kashmiri people face. We want Jammu and Kashmir to prosper on every front,” they added.

They were taken to the nearby police station, the officials said. They were identified as Mudasir Aziz, Danish, and Mutarib.
