Srinagar to get facelift with mega projects by Nov 2020: Div Com

Srinagar, Feb 04: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan today said with the completion of major projects by November 2020, Srinagar will witness a major facelift.

He said this during a review meeting of various projects of Srinagar city.

The meeting was attended by District Development Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary, Chief Engineer R&B, PHE and Irrigation, CMO Srinagar, ADC Srinagar and other senior officers of all departments.

According to an official press release, the Divisional Commissioner asked the officers to start working on new power schedule with less curtailments as the Alesteng Grid station is being commenced in coming days to improve power scenario in the city.

While seeking status of retrieval of encroached land, Divisional Commissioner said that concerned officers will be held responsible for the encroachments in their domain.

“Wherever there is land retrieval, proper fencing should be done and a land bank created by the concerned department,” he added.

The ADC Srinagar was asked to coordinate with the concerned departments to monitor status of land retrieval on regular basis and to inventories the same.

Regarding the preparation for tourism season, Divisional Commissioner asked the concerned officials to carry out audit of lighting system in tourism spots and replace the defunct lights at earliest.

He also asked the officers to carry out review of Flood Management Plan and make embankments strong wherever necessary besides initate action against people  resorting to illegal mining.

He directed the concerned to list buildings which would be used as disaster management centers in case of exigency.

The Divisional Commissioner directed the officers to complete all the paperwork regarding smart city project by 1st March.

Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Dr Shahid Chowdhary, presented  a detailed presentation about various projects and initiatives being taken in hand for making Srinagar city one of the vibrant cities in the country.

The DC informed the meeting about the status of identification, legal process, retrieval mapping, and utilization of encroached land in Srinagar city.

He informed the meeting that Rs 3.54 cr has been earmarked under Capex budget 2019-20 for augmentation of power sector in Srinagar.

The DC also informed the meeting about the status of projects  including construction of Western Foreshore Road from Kohna Khan- Dalgate to Saida Kada, establishment of Smart Library in  Down Town area, Flyover Space Management, Four lanning of road from Highland Motors Church lane up to Badami Bagh Cantonment gate, establishment of E-Libraries, Smart Metering of Water Connections and SCADA.

Regarding the augmentation of drinking water supply network in Srinagar, he informed that Rs 71.15 Cr were earmarked for completion of 16 languishing projects which includes Rs 3.10 Cr by district administration under SADP for enhancement of distribution  capacity.

He said that by augmenting 12 WSS at Rs.26.73 Crore piped water supply to every household would be ensured by the year 202.
