Srinagar, August 03: The young generation of bakers in Kashmir is taking the profession of baking to a next level by employing new and attractive techniques.
Kashmir Images spoke to these young bakers who have turned their passion into profession.
21-year-old Sana Imtiyaz from Baghat Srinagar bakes cakes with a blend of art and innovations.
“When I was studying in 12th standard, I pursued a course in baking from Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Srinagar. I have also done a diploma in Cake Decoration,” says Sana, “I take orders from my Instagram page ‘Sweet Temptations by Sana Imtiyaz’.”
Sana is presently pursuing BSc from IHM Srinagar.
Hanshika Kohli, 18, from Indra Nagar is a passionate young baker. She bakes cakes, cupcakes and cookies.
Kohli, a student of 12th standard, has been baking cakes since childhood and last year she decided to turn her passion into profession. “I participated in a Chef Competition which was organised by Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) and won it,” she says, “After having won a Chef Competition, I decided to choose baking as my profession and I am in baking business from last one year.”
“I used to take orders from Parsa’s but now I take orders from Books and Bricks café,” she says.
A young chocolate-maker from Solina Srinagar, Safiullah choose his passion over a well settled family business. After completing a professional course in chocolate making from Delhi, he started to make chocolates from his home under the brand name “Shalimar chocolates”. Safiullah took advantage of social networking sites to advertise his brand. Since 2018, he has added many flavours and types to his chocolates such as Crunchy Butterscotch, Chocolate Dates, Liquid Chocolates and much more.
Safiullah takes orders for delivering chocolate cakes on the special occasions of birthday, Eid and other such celebrations.
