A local resident, Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh, told Kashmir Images that a Degree College was allotted to their area recently but the officials are now planning to establish it in Berthipora area.

Sheikh said that we are protesting today just to inform the authorities that the college must be established in main Keller area and incase our demand is not met then we have no option but to hit the streets. “Brethipora is nearly 10 km away from main Keller area and it is the ideal spot for the college establishment as it lies in the center of around 26 villages of the Keller Tehsil,” he added.

“If the college is established at Brethipora village then the students of upper villages of the Tehsil will have to travel around 25 kms and if constructed in Keller then it will cut the distance by around 10 kms,” the protesting residents said.

When contacted Tehsildar Keller, Ab Rashid, said that the final decision with regard to the construction of Degree College in Brethipora is yet to be taken.

We have proposed two sites to the higher officials, one is Brethipora and other is Zampathri which is only 2 kms away from main Keller.
