7th G’bl Badminton Championship to begin from first week of Aug

Ganderbal, July 26: The much-awaited 7th Ganderbal Badminton Championship is scheduled to commence from first week of August.

The championship will be played in age category of under-14, under-16 and under-19. The players of senior category, both men and women, will also participate.

According to organizers, hundreds of badminton player have registered for the championship so far. The registration is open up to July 31.

Javaid Ahmad, organising secretary of the championship, said, “We have successfully organized 6 district championships in last six years. We have received a good response this year too as lot of players are registering for the championship.”

“District championships play an important role in providing platform to talented players. Every year the championship is getting better and better,” he added.

Secretary District Ganderbal Badminton Assocation, Ajaz Ahamd Qurashi,  said that in previous editions, they spotted many good players who later on played at state and national level.

“Ibrahim Ajaz played in pervious championships and later became Kehlo India J&K champion. He was also called for Indian National Junior Badminton Camp,” he added.

The organizers said that the championship, for the first time ever, will be played in newly constructed indoor stadium at Sehpora Ganderbal.
