Greening Jammu and Kashmir gains momentum

SRINAGAR, JULY 13: The Greening Jammu and Kashmir programme, launched by Governor Satyapal Malik on 8th of July, today gained further momentum by various plantation programmes being organized by various Forest Divisions in Jammu, Reasi and Rajouri districts.

In Jammu, Urban Forestry Division conducted a plantation drive in Sector-A Sainik Colony Jammu in collaboration with department of Floriculture. A total of 300 plants were planted in the presence of Narinder Singh, Corporator  Sainik Colony, Col. Harjinder Singh and Kamal Saini. In another event also conducted by Urban Forestry Division, Jammu at Sewerage Treatment Plant Bhagwati Nagar Jammu, nearly 500 plants were planted in the presence of Mayor Jammu Chander Mohan Sharma, Corporator Bhagwati Nagar Pramod Kapahi, some social workers and local people. Urban Forestry Division also conducted a plantation programme at Teachers Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar where Anuradha Gupta, Director School Education Department, Chander Gupta, Social Activist and staff of Education Department participated in the plantation of more than 100 plants.

In Reasi, Reasi Forest Division organized a plantation drive at Bidda in a sacred groove where local Sarpanch, Panchs and people joined with the forest staff and planted 70 saplings of various species like Peepal,  Bargad, Kadamb, bel, Chinar, etc.

In Rajouri, Rajouri Forest Division organized a programme in Govt. Primary School Kesargalla where a large number of locals participated while in another event organized by Nowshera Forest Division at Govt. High School Dharamsal, Sunderbani and Govt. Middle School Kantha plantation drive was conducted involving local people.

Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar applauded the progress of the plantation drive and encouraged the Forest officers to maintain the momentum. Commissioner Secretary Forests, Manoj Kr. Dwivedi also lauded the progress of plantation being conducted and encouraged the officers to take up the plantation programmes with universities and other institutions.
