Kumar, Ganai inaugurate Divisional level cricket tourney at Anantnag

ANANTNAG, JULY 10: Advisors to Governor, K Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ahmad Ganai today inaugurated divisional level inter district cricket tournament at Government Higher Secondary School, Bijbehara, Anantnag.

On the occasion international cricketer Parveiz Rasool was the guest of honour. The students in the categories of under 14, u/17 and u/19 are participating in the week long tournament commencing from today.

The tournament is being organised by District Youth Services and Sports department Anantnag. The inaugural match was played between the Mattan and Bandipora teams. Similar matches are being played at sports stadium, Anantnag, Nanil.

District Development Commissioner, Anantnag Khalid Jahangir, Director General Youth Services and Sports, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, Director School Education  Mohammed Younis Malik, JD School Education South, SSP Anantnag, SDM Bijbehara, District Youth Services & Sports Officer and other senior officers  were present on the occasion.

Both the Advisors interacted with the players and asked them to play with true sports sprit. They stressed that extracurricular activities are necessary for all round development of the youth and sports help to build confidence, physical growth and teach team work. They further added that state administration is committed to provide sports infrastructure, equipments and other facilities to the players. Advisor Ganie said that Anantnag has lot of potential in sports field which has to be explored.

Parveiz Rasool stressed on upgrading sport infrastructure in the district. Four students were felicitated for their outstanding performance in sports and academics.

The DYSSO informed about the various sports events being carried out in the district and said that three day inter Panchayat level chess and carrom board tournament has been launched in 5 blocks including Achabal, Shangus, Anantnag, Sagam and Bijbehara of Anantnag district on foundation course screening and competition.

Later the Advisors inaugurated state of art auditorium at Government Boys Model Higher Secondary school Bijbehara constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 250.62 lacs having seating capacity of 200.

Addressing the students Advisor Kumar urged them to work with dedication and brave all odds in life, be committed to your goals and focus to excel in life. He stated that no physical deficiency be an obstacle to do better. He also hailed the efforts of District Development Commissioner Anantnag for accelerating the pace of overall development in the district.

Advisor Ganai stressed upon the teachers to improve teaching and learning outcomes and provide platform to the students for extracurricular activities. He impressed upon the officials to address infrastructural gaps and dearth of staff by way of rationalisation.

A cultural program was also presented by the students of institution.
