Directorate of Economics & Statistics celebrates 13th “Statistics Day”

JAMMU, JUNE 29: The Directorate of Economics & Statistics celebrated 13th “Statistics Day” to pay tribute to late Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis for his contribution in the field of economic planning and statistical developmental of the country.

The main objective of celebrating “Statistics Day” is to create awareness among the young generation about the statistical modules and models given by late Prof Mahalanobis.

The theme of the “13th Statistics Day” was “Sustainable Development Goals”(SDG), which focuses on achieving overall development plans, reducing future economic, environmental and social costs, strengthening economic competitiveness and reducing poverty. SDG address not only the measurable changes in the well being of people, economic development of countries and better environment on the planet but also the means of how these changes shall be induced.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General Economics & Statistics, A. K. Gandotra, highlighted the problems faced in the collection of reliable data in the field. He also suggested ways and means to overcome problems in a time bound manner.

He urged members of the Economics & Statistics cadre to take the oath to work with commitment and dedication to ensure improvement, in-the quality of data generated in the state.

Directors, Chief Planning Officers, District Statistics & Evaluation Officers other members of the Economics & Statistics cadre and scholars from Universities of Kashmir and Islamic University of Science and Technology also participated in the function.
