KARGIL JUNE 24: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan today underlined the need to put in place a proper mechanism for regulation of mining and quarrying activities in the district.

The CEC stated this while chairing a meeting which was convened to review the mining and quarrying activities like extraction of sand, bajri, boulders, masonry stone etc. from State and ancestrally occupied land holdings and the operation of stone crusher units in the district.

Executive Councillor for Social Welfare Aga Syed Mujtaba, Executive Councillor for Tourism Er Punchok Tashi, Executive Councillor for Health Muhammad Ali Chandan, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, SE PWD Kargil Haji Fida Hussain, Commander 762 BRTF Project Vijayak Col Rajeev Lohani, Executive Engineers of PHE, PMGSY, R&B II, I&FC, District Mineral Officer besides other concerned officers attended the meeting.

The meeting decided that the royalty deducted at source by the Government departments would now be credited into the LAHDC Head in view of the amendment of Section 24 of the LAHDC Act in 2018.

It was decided that a final decision in this regard would be taken in the upcoming Executive Council meeting of the LAHDC Kargil and a separate head would be created in due course of time.

The meeting also discussed proper regulation of various mining and quarrying activities in the light of SRO 105 and SRO 302 and other relevant provisions.

The CEC gave on spot directions to the concerned officers for the constitution of an officer’s committee immediately which would identity sites for mining and quarrying activities in line with the mining rules in vogue keeping in view the limited working season for carrying out developmental activities in the district.

The CEC instructed the Commander 762 BRTF Project Vijayak to seek prior permission from the District Administration for extraction and transportation of minor minerals for carrying out developmental activities

Meanwhile, the stone crusher unit holders have been instructed to ensure the submission of their registration documents to the concerned officers within a period of 10 days failing which their units would be seized and action warranted under rules would be initiated against them.
