Sopore, June 23: Though the government claims to have macadamized maximum number of roads in the Valley, the dilapidated 24-km-long road leading from Sopore to Shiva in Baramulla district is puncturing these claims.

The locals told Kashmir Images that Sopore-Shiva  road is lifeline for more than forty thousand people; besides, hundreds of vehicles, both commercial and private, ply on this road on daily basis. “The condition of the road is so bad that the potholes developed on it get accumulated ankle deep with water,” the locals said.

“Earlier this year, the Roads and Building Department (R&B) macadamized 2 kilometer stretch of the road ranging from Armpora to Saidpora,” said a resident of Dangerpora, Ali Mohammad.

R&B department officials told Kashmir Images that the up-gradation cum widening work on 24 kilometers long road connecting Sadipora, Dangarpora, Duroo, Sempora and Shiva villages started on March 12, 2017, at an estimated cost of Rs 17.65 crore and will be completed in March 2020.

When contacted Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir, Sami Arif Yasvi, said: “The work on the road was stopped by the local residents who did not receive compensation for their land which was used for the road widening purposes but now we have almost resolved the issue and the repairing work will be started soon.”
