Day 4: Ladakh remains abuzz with activities of ‘Back to Village’ programme

SRINAGAR, JUNE 23:- In connection with the pioneering initiative of the Government “Back to Village” programme which entered its fourth day today, Ladakh division remained abuzz with a slew of activities like extensive public interactions, registering of grievances of people about the  implementation of various schemes, inspection of public utilities, holding of awareness camps and other allied activities.

The day commenced with great enthusiasm and response from the public who are taking keen interest in this ambitious programme and raised various issues with regard to development of the villages with the officers seeking their intervention for an early redressal.

In Kargil, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary who is personally monitoring the programme urged all designated officers to ensure cent percent implementation of the programme on ground. He stressed that adequate public participation would be solicited in implementation of various programmes and schemes, aimed at their welfare.

Meanwhile, plantation and cleanliness drives were held today at Gram Panchayat Panikhar, Badgam, Apati and Chokiyal Drass. Back to Village leaflets were also distributed among villagers and Social Audit Committee was constituted at Gram Panchayat Chokiyal.

The day was also marked by the holding of Womens’ Gram Sabha and issuance of job cards at Apati, Gram Sabha at GP Chokiyal and GP Minjee besides Women Gram Sabha meeting at GP Panikhar.

Local people expressed satisfaction over the massive Government-Public interface programme and showed optimism that all languishing and halted projects in the far flung district shall be restarted by the intervention of the government through this programme.

The officers enlightened the PRI members and villagers about various developmental programmes and schemes initiated by the government for the overall development of the rural areas. They also informed people about the centrally sponsored and state-run schemes for the welfare of the general public.

Visiting  officers also conducted interaction programmes during which participants put forth various demands related to the power and water supply, banking facilities, installation of transformers, construction of approach roads, supply of HT/LT, polls, old-age pensions, ration cards, registration of labourers, establishment of sheep and animal husbandry centers, construction of playgrounds and conservation of water resources, besides proper implementation of central and state-sponsored schemes.

Pertinently, out of the 98 Gram Panchayats in the district Back to Village programmes have already been completed in 53 while as activities in respect of other GPs is being carried out in full swing.

In Leh, visiting officers have reached in all the 95 Gramm Panchayats of 16 blocks of Leh district. In the first phase which started from 20th to 21st June, the Back to Village programme was held in two panchayats in Diskit block i.e Diskit and Digar. One Panchayat each in Khaltsi and Panamik blocks i.e Tia and Kobed respectively.

In the 2nd phase the Back to Village programme was successfully concluded in 10 panchayat halqas, Spituk halqa of Leh block, Stok and Stanka of Chuchot block, Shey-ii of Thiksay block, Hunder and Diskit halqa panchayts of Diskit block, Lamayuru and Khaltsi panchayts of Khaltsi block, Fotoksar PH of Singaylalok block and Tyakshi of Turtuk block.

In today’s phase, the Back to Village programme is being held in 28 panchayats of 11 blocks out of the total 16 blocks of the district.
