SRINAGAR, JUNE 21: Several functions were held at various places in Kashmir and Ladakh divisions to mark the “International Day of Yoga”.

Since its inception in 2015, the day is celebrated annually on June 21st.

IN KASHMIR, Senior Superintendent of Police Jail Mukesh Kumar Kakkar organized an event in this regard within the premises of Central Jail Srinagar, where Officers, jail staff and CRPF personnel along with jail inmates participated in the Yoga. The event was held on the directions of Director General of Police, Prisons, J&K.

Likewise, Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, Bemina organized Yoga Day in the CRC, Srinagar J&K’s main campus here today.

All the degree and diploma students, staff members (Teaching & non Teaching) and beneficiaries participated in the Yoga programme where all the “Youga Asanas” were performed.

The programme was supported by the trainers of 28 Batallion CRPF and under the active support of Area Welfare Officer (DOPT) J&K.

In Leh division, DC, Leh Avny Lavasa participated in a Yoga session as the chief guest at Lamdon School, Leh.

The day was jointly organized by Sports Authority of India and Lamdon Model Sr. Secondary School, (LMSS) Leh.

Nearly 1,500 students participated in the Yoga. Ajeet Singh, Director Incharge SAI, RC, Chandigarh was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, DC, Leh said that yoga has all those attributes that are relevant for anything that we do in our life. She added that yoga is essential to excel in any sports and in studies as it helps in developing concentration, mental focus, self belief and to learn proper body postures in living a fit and healthy life. She urged upon everyone to spare at least half an hour in a day to practice yoga, if not play some sport aiming for a healthy mind and a healthy body.

Principal, LMSS, Leh Dr. Stanzin Dawa said that celebration of International Yoga day is like celebrating our life. He stressed that yoga should be made an important activity in everyone’s life and need to be performed on a daily basis to stay healthy.

To mark the day, Nehru Yuva Kendra Kargil in collaboration with District Administration Kargil organized a yoga awareness and exercise session at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang here today.

Divisional Commissioner Ladakh Saugat Biswas was the chief guest on the occasion, while as Deputy Commissioner and CEO LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary was the guest of honor.

Superintendent of Police Kargil Dr Vinod Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Sonam Chosjor, Chief Planning Officer Kargil Tashi Tundup, District Coordinator NYK Kargil Tajammul Ara, district officers and officials of different departments and around 3000 students of various schools performed different Yoga asanas and ‘pranayama’ (breathing exercise) enthusiastically under the guidance of Yoga expert from France Mary Lynn.

Speaking on the occasion, the Div Com highlighted the importance of yoga as a form of exercise in maintaining physical and mental fitness which also brings harmony between mind and body. He urged upon the participants to make it an integral part of their lives.

DC Kargil also spoke on the occasion and counted the benefits of Yoga for physical and mental well being. He exhorted upon the participants particularly the youngsters to practice yoga on a regular basis so as to stay healthy and happy.

Meanwhile, colourful cultural programmes were also presented by the students of Higher Secondary School Shargole and Druk Padma Karpo School Fokar.
