A joint team of SDRF, police and local volunteers managed to rescue the injured and shifted them to a nearby hospital where doctors declared Rinku and Sanjna as ‘brought dead’.

BMO Sallar, Dr Shakeel Ahmad, confirmed that two of the persons were brought dead while eight others had received injures. One person who was seriously injured was referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.

Commissioner Secretary, Tourism, Rigzin Samphel confirmed the incident and added that a three-day championship in honour of brave heart Rouf Ahmad Dar had been organized by the department. “After the conclusion of today’s rafting, the employee and the participant left for rafting during which the incident took place,” he added.

Pertinent to mention that, on May 31, Rouf Ahmad Dar had died while saving five tourists, two of them foreigners, after their boat capsized in river Lidder near Mawoora area of Pahalgam. The championship was organized in Dar’s memory.  ( With inputs from GNS)
